Bulmers is the world’s largest Cider Maker. The company was founded in Hereford, England in 1887 by Percy Bulmer, the son of a local clergyman.

Percy made just 4000 gallons (32 thousand pints) that first year. Now, Bulmers makes over 3,000,000 Hectolitres of cider annually, which is around 530 million pints of cider every year!

Cider making in those early days was a hit or miss affair, the fermentation being achieved by the wild yeast in the apple, and more often than not, the cider turned sour. It was a college friend of Percy’s brother, Dr Herbert Durham, who, in the 1890's, isolated the wild yeast to create the first pure cider yeast culture which would ensure all future fermentations were consistent. It was the start of commercial cider making. Bulmers now pride themselves in the high quality and consistent ciders that their cidermill makes.  The site is still located on the land bought by the Bulmer family in the 1930s, and has seen significant levels of investment in the last 15 years. Ciders from Bulmers benefit from the mix of over 100 years of cidermaking knowledge coupled with the best in terms of modern technology.

Bulmers brands are sold throughout the world. The UKs number 1 cider is Strongbow, a dry and crisp cider, made with bittersweet apples. Scrumpy Jack is a premium, dry cider made only from bittersweet apples, sourced locally to the Hereford cider mill. Woodpecker, now over 100 years old, and the UKs leading sweet cider is refreshing and easy to drink. The newly launched Strongbow Sirrus is a smooth cider best served over ice.
