Orchard Groundforce, which looks after 900 acres of traditional orchards is Somerset is getting down to doing some serious pruning.  It is also running the following workshops if you would like to learn how to look after your own trees. 

 

ORCHARD GROUNDFORCE WORKSHOPS 2012

 

PRUNING & PLANTING APPLE AND PEAR TREES


A one day workshop with concentrated practical tuition.

 

The first half of the day is spent in our comfortable, well equipped classroom.

The afternoon is an enjoyable hands-on practical session in our extensive

orchards where you will be using tools and gaining valuable insight into all

your pruning problems. Individual tuition means that all interests can be

catered for.

 

Topics covered include:

 

• Markets, soil types, fruit choice, location

• Varieties, pollinators, spacings, yields, support systems

• Planting issues, timing, soil condition, sourcing, planting depth, feeding,

watering

• Restoration of old trees, care of new trees, wildlife

• Tools, pruning techniques and styles

• General care and priorities

 

Workshops are a full day, starting at 9.00 and finishing around 4.30.

Cost: £70 per person, including lunch
