More honours for Suffolk’s Aspall

July 19 2010

Super-premium cyder maker Aspall has won a string of top honours at the British Bottlers’ Institute.

Judged by a panel of experts during an anonymous, independent blind tasting, the British Bottlers’ Awards presented Gold medals to Aspall Peronelle’s Blush and Aspall Draught Suffolk Cyder (ciders abv 5.5% and above), and a Silver medal for Aspall Organic Suffolk Cyder. Open to all producers of ales, lagers and ciders, the awards pitch the top products against each other to recognise the best tasting quality drink.

Barry Chevallier Guild, Aspall partner, says: ‘Our ongoing commitment to the quality of our cyders has ensured they have won numerous awards since their relaunch and we are incredibly proud to have been recognised once again at these prestigious awards.  All our cyders are made from a complex blend of both bitter-sweet and culinary apples, fermented from 100% apple juice which gives them their exquisite taste profile.’

Aspall Suffolk Cyder was relaunched in 2000 and since then it has won many of the top industry awards for quality. In February, Aspall won the World’s Best Cider award for its Premier Cru for a second consecutive year. Aspall also scooped the majority of the top category awards: Aspall Premier Cru also won World’s Best Dry Cider; Aspall Organic Suffolk Cyder was named the World’s Best Speciality Cider; and Aspall Draught Suffolk Cyder (bottled format) was awarded the World’s Best Medium Cider.

Total cyder sales for Aspall (on and off-trade) are currently growing by 85% year-on-year.

The company sources the majority of its apples from local Suffolk orchards and works with the region’s apple growers to ensure long-term sustainability.
