Aspall Partner appointed Chair of NACM
September 04 2009Henry Chevallier Guild, a partner at Suffolk-based Aspall Cyder, has become chair of the National Association of Cider Makers.
Henry’s chairmanship will last for a period of two years and follows that of Fenella Tyler, who has been chair since 2007. Henry supported Fenella in his previous role as vice chair.
Said Henry: 'It is a real honour to be elected chair of the NACM and it has been fantastic working with Fenella over the last two years.
'The NACM, more than any other trade association I can think of, truly works together for the common good of the industry it represents. With 85% of UK cider produced by NACM members, this helps us to maintain the stringent quality controls that exist in the UK cider industry.
'Over the last few years Aspall has grown from a tiny producer to a medium-sized player in the cider category. That scope of experience means I can represent every perspective of the industry. I am very much looking forward to visiting as many cider makers as I can during the next two years to ensure that all views, concerns and considerations can be aired and debated within the NACM.
'The recession is still biting hard but cider is proving more resilient than other categories. I will endeavour to build on Fenella’s hard work of the past two years and help the category remain buoyant while also ensuring that we do not lose sight of the importance of other aspects of our agenda such as sustainability.'
Said Fenella: 'I am delighted to be succeeded by Henry. He has provided tremendous support to me and to the cider industry over many years and he will unquestionably be an excellent leader of our industry.
'He represents a strong family heritage and clearly respects the traditions of our unique industry. He will ensure we continue to become a more sustainable industry and one that continues to support the rural areas that are our base. He will also focus on the important issue of greater social responsibility.'
Simon Russell, spokesman for the NACM, says: 'Henry has been active and generous in his support of the NACM for a long time, particularly at a time when he (and joint partner Barry Chevallier Guild) have done so much to develop and grow the Aspall business. The leadership of the industry will be in very safe hands.
'Henry will represent every part of the cider community and will be effective as we engage with government and others to ensure the industry view is presented in the best light.' September 4, 2009
